Sam Allardyce says that Emmanuel Eboue will not be joining Sunderland after the club are reportedly received no contact from the player for their notice.
Eboue was recently suspended from all forms of football by FIFA for a period of 12 months due to his failure to pay off his former agent Sebastien Boisseau. Sunderland had given the player a two-week notice in order to settle those debts and attempt a return to the game as soon as possible. Now that the player has not responded, Allardyce believes that the player might have played his last game for the club.
The former Ivory Coast international has been with Sunderland for the last few months. He was a free agent since leaving Galatasaray last summer. Unable to find the club, Eboue began training with Sunderland in the hope of impressing manager Allardyce for a permanent deal. Sunderland were also looking to take advantage of the experienced Premier League campaigner in their fight against relegation. After recently signing a short-term contract with Sunderland, the player has found himself in the midst of this controversy. It is understood that he owes around € 1 million to his former agent. Sunderland have terminated his contract with immediate effect.
“We haven’t heard anything so I think the writing’s on the wall.We’ve not had hide nor hare of what position he’s in, or if he’s about to settle it or not.I think we’ll have to draw a line under it this week,” said Allardyce. At 32, many believed that Eboue still had to offer a lot of in the game. Sunderland have been fighting against relegation throughout the campaign, but results have improved since the arrival of Allardyce a few months ago. The former Bolton manager made a name out of signing free transfers and older players.
