Iker Casillas spot in Real Madrid’s goalkeeping position still remains to be up for grabs as he is still being switched out with Diego Lopez and even though it was initially believed that Casillas would get more playing time after the departure of Mourinho from the club, things have not changed very much.
This leaves the future of Iker Casillas undecided and gives the chance for other clubs that might be interested in signing him a chance to make a move for the Spanish goalkeeper. Arsenal and Manchester City are believed to be following closely on the situation of veteran shot-stopper as they might just make a move for him in January.
With the 2014 World Cup edging closer and closer, if the situation of Casillas does not change anytime soon in Real Madrid this could harm his chances on playing for Spain for 1 last time. The 32 years old goalkeeper has to consider the fact that he faces tough competition ahead of him with the likes of Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina being candidates on taking up the goalkeeper position in Spain.
Another target of Arsenal is Basle’s Fabian Schar who is only 21 years of age but has made great performances in the Champions League and already snatched the interest of a number of top European clubs.
According to Fabian Schar’s agent, English clubs aren’t the only ones interested in signing him.
‘He is happy at Basle, where there is a great atmosphere within the club,’ said Dimitrios Papadopoulos.
‘Arsenal? I can confirm we have had contact with English clubs who want to sign him. There is also interest from Italian and German clubs, but we have more contact from England.’ Schar’s agent said.
It is believed that Basle will allow Fabian Schar to make a move away from the club but only if an offer in the region of £6million is offered.
