Fernando Torres says that he has no idea of leaving Atletico Madrid when his loan spell ends in the summer.
The Spanish striker returned to the club, where he is hailed as a hero, on a long loan spell from AC Milan. The Italian club took a major gamble by signing him from Chelsea despite being aware of his goalscoring problems in recent years. During his time at Liverpool, Torres was regarded as the best striker in the world without a shadow of doubt. However, injuries and a change to Chelsea brought about a major change in his game and he never recovered.
At 31 years of age, he may be deemed surplus to requirements at Atletico. This is despite the club recently losing out on Jackson Martinez to the Chinese league. Torres remains as one of the high-profile strikers in the squad, but that is unlikely to save him given his poor goalscoring record. After a brief revival, Torres has once again found it difficult to score goals. Even though Diego Simeone appreciates the work rate provided by the 31-year-old, he will certainly wish for more goals from the striker. It certainly appears that Torres has no idea of going away from the Vicente Calderon anytime soon. However, it will depend upon the club meeting the transfer requirements for a permanent move
“Now is not the time to listen to offers, nor do I have any interest, I want to be at Atleti. My future is to win here. It is something I have not done yet. Today I have the good fortune to play where I want, I do not know until when, but I want to enjoy every game.I am aware that my performance has to be better. I want to play a leading role and since I have arrived I have not had consistency. Maybe I have not earned it,” said Torres.
